Mediation in a incredibly satisfying career choice. However if you are not an experienced mediator then finding your first job can be exhausting. As someone who has experience in mediation, I found it frustrating to see the inflated qualifications that were stopping new mediators from entering the conflict resolution profession.Here I present my professionals guide to getting your first mediation job…1.SpecializeThe mediation field is a wide and diverse one. Being a successful mediator is all about finding a niche you can sell yourself on.Try to cover all areas, and REALLY research what you want to specialise in. The most popular mediation career choices consists of family mediation, divorce, international conflict such as diplomacy or post war conflict resolution and finally corporate mediation. Do some research into what is i african mango nvolved in each type and then start to market yourself in that field. Geography could play a big part in this too. For example if you live in a city with plenty of divorce mediators you may want to ask yourself if this is the wisest route to go down, or perhaps to specialise in corporate mediation instead. Last if you are steadfast in your desire to enter a certain segment of the conflict resolution market consider that you may have to be flexible in location and pay. 2.Learn where to lookA career in mediation in one full of competition – learn where to look to get a head start. Don’t just use generic resouces – mediation jobs a scarce. Being a mediator is not your average job – so you much find out where to look. The internet is a great place for this (in a way that was not possible when I started out in my career in mediation).
